South Lanarkshire Parents Say No to Education Budget Cuts

The purpose of this campaign website is to reach out across South Lanarkshire and gather all parents via Parent Forums and Parent Councils and get the message to South Lanarkshire that enough is enough NO MORE CUTS.

Here is the crux of the matter

Take a typical 2 or 2.25% “management saving“ or cut to you or I.

Let's assume a school budget of £1 Million.

2% would be £20,000 of a cut.

2.25% would be £22,250 of a cut.

Sounds bad enough but here is the shocking part

Rough rule of thumb dictates 85% of a school budget is beyond the Head Teacher’s control. Due to it being made up of wages, heating and lighting costs etc.

So out of £1 million budget for a larger school that means that £20,000 needs to come off the remaining 15% of the budget the Head Teacher does control.

So £1,000,000 x 85% = £850,000

This means the 15% Head controls equates to around £150,000.

If you then deduct £20,000 from the £150,000 you are only left with £130,000.

In effect a 13.5% cut in real terms. All that from a 2% cut in Educational Budget.

If you apply 2.25% this would equate to a 15% cut in real terms
